[VOIPSEC] need info

Anand,

I've actually not seen anywhere a concise list of the specific signalling
protocols used by all of us who create IP-PBXs. There's a long list of
the vendors in the voip-info.org wiki at:

  http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/index.php?page=VOIP+PBX+and+Servers

but you might have to hunt through that to find the info you are looking
at.

Regarding your specific list of vendors, there are folks here on the
mailing list from many of those vendors. I think the question is really
for you - *where* are you trying to capture and evaluate the signalling?

Are you trying to capture the traffic between handset and IP PBX? Between
multiple IP PBXs? Trunking out to a service provider?

Different signalling protocols are going to be used at different places.
Between handset and IP PBX, I believe Cisco generally uses SCCP (aka
"Skinny") and now also supports SIP. I believe Nortel's systems generally
use their own UNISTIM but also support SIP. Not entirely sure of the
specific protocols used on the Siemens and Ericsson systems between their
handsets and systems. This may also vary by vendor based on which IP PBX
you are using, as some vendors may have different PBXs that support
different signalling protocols.

So what protocols you see will really vary widely depending upon where you
are looking at the traffic and specifically which devices you are testing.
Probably the only really good way for you to figure that out may be to
dig through the technical documentation for the specific pieces of
equipment that you have.

Regards,
Dan

P.S. For anyone seeking a distraction for a few minutes (and with the
knowledge), the Wikipedia article on signaling protocols is in *serious*
need of content! See:

thank you for all the paper...

i still got one more query,

can any one give information on vendors CISCO, NORTEL,SIEMENS, ERICSSON -
what kind of signalling protocol they use for their VOIP products

I will be happy if anyone can give information on all the support
protocols
they use.

regards
 anand
