Gary and other VOIPSEC readers

To follow up on what Dave said, we have launched the "Voice of VOIPSA" at
http://www.voipsa.org/blog/ as yet another way to expand the conversation
around VoIP security issues.

We would welcome any contributors!

Dave, Jonathan and I have started writing, entries mostly so that we could

figure out and tweak the Wordpress back-end and get things ready to go for

others to contribute. [1]

We are now ready and would welcome anyone who wants to regularly
contribute
postings like:

  - Short mentions of breaking news items with relevant links
  - Longer opinion pieces about VoIP security issues
  - Tutorial pieces educating folks about a particular aspect of VoIP
security
  - Pointers to other articles/blogs/podcasts that contain information
about
      VoIP security

Note that you do NOT have to be your organization's representative to
VOIPSA
in order to contribute to the blog. In fact, we are actually open to
having
contributors from organizations who are not VOIPSA members. We recognize
that
there may be some people out there with much to contribute for whom it may
or
may not make sense for their organization to join VOIPSA - and we also
realize
there are individuals (i.e. security researchers, consultants, etc.) who
may not
have a specific organization that could join VOIPSA. One of the end goals
of
VOIPSA is to foster an ongoing dialogue about VoIP security issues - the
threats
as well as the solutions. We are looking for people willing to help in
that goal.

Once we give you the ability to post articles, we will not be editing or
moderating what you post. We ask only that you agree to these guidelines:

1. No product pitches

The weblog is for general VoIP security discussion, not promotion of
   your individual products or services.

2. The weblog is not a press-release distribution vehicle

Links to press releases are okay, but with context and preferably by a
third-party (i.e. someone else, not you, links to your news releases.
You
link to other people's news releases, etc.)

3. Copyright on your text is yours, but by posting on VOIPSA's weblog you
give VOIPSA permission to redistribute your content as deemed
appropriate

For example, we might decide to let a company take the blog RSS feed
and reformat it for cell phone display.

4. We want to avoid "collisions" of multiple articles on the same topic

Contributors are asked to check the main weblog (force a browser
refresh)
before writing and again before hitting the final "Publish" button. If
someone else has already posted on the same topic, contributors are
asked
to post their views as a comment to the existing article. [2]

5. Of course, all articles must be your text (or appropriately quoted/
   attributed).

Assuming you are okay with those guidelines, we would love your
contributions.

Note that we are looking for people willing to contribute with some
regularity.
It could be a weekly posting... every other week... every day... every
couple of days... even once a month. We don't really care how often...
it's just that if we give you a contributor account we would like you to
commit to actually using it every so often. Also note that you can easily

get to a list of posts contributed by a given author by clicking on the
link for the contributor's name on the right-side menu. Your name will be
added there.

If you don't want to regularly contribute but do have an article that you
would like to post, feel free to contact me (dan.york at voipsa.org) and we
can see about one of us posting it as a "guest article" or something like
that.

Anyway, that is the deal and if any of you out there would like to
contribute
to the weblog, please do drop me a note to "dan.york at voipsa.org" and we
can
look at getting you set up.[3]

Regards,
Dan

[1] If there are any Wordpress gurus out there who want to dress up our
weblog a bit (for instance, with a snazzy graphic on top or with
contributor
pictures next to their articles) drop me a note. As you can probably
tell,
we're just using the default templates.

[2] Comments unfortunately *are* moderated because of the incredibly
annoying blog comment spammers out there. At some point we'll set up a
"captcha" tool or something that allows us to remove moderation.

[3] Note that Monday is a holiday here in the USA and I'm offline.

Hi Gary,

We've been slowly building up some blog postings before opening it up to
the
outside world. The timing of your note is perfect though. Dan York, our
newest VOIPSA exec, is in the process of signing people up and
distributing
the general content guidelines. Anyone interested in contributing to the
blog should drop Dan a note at dan.york at voipsa.org with a very brief bio.
Thanks,

-dave
