VOIPSEC members,
If you are relatively new to the world of VoIP security and looking for a
general overview of the issues, threats, best practices, etc., I recently
posted as part of the Blue Box podcast feed the audio recording and slides
from a presentation I did a few weeks ago at the "IP Telephony for
Government" conference in Arlington, VA . This conference was sponsored
by the Homeland Defense Journal and IT*Training magazine and had about 100
participants from various US federal government, state government and
military agencies. There were a number of speakers on various issues
related to VoIP and I was there to give an overview of the security
issues. You can visit:
http://www.blueboxpodcast.com/2006/05/blue_box_podcas.html
to download the MP3 file and/or the PDF of the slides. You can also
simply click the "Play" button and listen directly from the web page (as
long as you then don't navigate away from the web page in your browser).
Or you can simply download the MP3 file and play it on your PC in whatever
music program you use (or on whatever portable MP3 player you use).
If you are already a subscriber to the Blue Box podcast feed, you don't
have to do anything as you already received the MP3 file for this
presentation last week.
As a lifelong trainer/instructor/educator, I'm definitely always open to
feedback so feel free to directly send me feedback if you have comments on
what I presented or how I presented it.
Enjoy,
Dan
P.S. As a side note, if any of you are also speaking on VoIP security
issues[1] in the months ahead at a conference or in a web seminar, please
know that Jonathan and I are always open to including presentations like
this as part of the podcast feed. All you need to do is record your
presentation (and I'm happy to share suggestions about how to do this
based on my own experiences) and then send me the MP3 file and ideally
also your slides. (You of course also need to ensure that the conference
organizers have no issue with you doing so as some conferences sell the
recordings or make them available only to participants as part of what
they get for attending.) We are glad to offer recordings like this as
they add to the general pool of knowledge around VoIP security issues.
There is also certainly value in hearing how different speakers present
the issues. If you are speaking in the months ahead and are interested in
offering the recording, please drop me an email at
"blueboxpodcast at gmail.com" and we can communicate about details.
[1] One important caveat: the presentation needs to be a vendor-neutral
presentation, i.e. we are not interested in essentially running
commercials for a specific vendor.
